Grassroots funding for Mount Pleasant

Grassroots funding for Mount Pleasant

Mount Pleasant sporting clubs are set to benefit from a $525,000 investment in lighting and court upgrades at Old Talunga Park as part of The Barossa Council’s Big Project.

The State Government has contributed $197,000 towards the project, which will see the installation of sports flood lighting and upgrade to six full size courts.

Mayor Bim Lange said the upgrades are welcome news for local netball and tennis clubs.

“High quality courts and LED floodlighting not only create a safer playing environment, but also expand opportunities for people to participate in competitive and social sport,” Mayor Lange said. “This gives clubs an opportunity to grow, recruit, raise revenue and be sustainable.

“Mount Pleasant is a close-knit community and we know these upgrades will also benefit people in the wider community who access Old Talunga Park for recreation and leisure.”

Mayor Lange said it was another example of the State Government and peak sporting bodies working with Council to deliver positive community health outcomes.

“We must also acknowledge Tennis SA and Mount Pleasant netball and tennis clubs themselves, who have jointly committed $50,000 to help secure this funding for their community.”
