Greater industry-university collaboration is critical

Business Council of Australia

Business welcomes the release of the Dawkins-Bean review which paints a clear path forward for greater university and industry collaboration, Business Council chief executive Jennifer Westacott said.

“This is a crucial piece of work that will help both sectors meet Australia’s skills needs and create career pathways.

“The path laid out in the Dawkins-Bean review would complement the government’s game changing Trailblazer Universities initiative and help unlock the economic benefits of better collaboration.

“As Australia gears up for economic recovery, we need fresh ideas and a Team Australia approach to match school leavers and job seekers with opportunities to earn or learn.

“We welcome the clear recommendations in this report to strengthen partnerships between the education sector and employers and help bridge the skills divide.

“Increased support for micro-credentials, cadetships, and work-integrated learning will expand options for Australians to upskill, and ensure our tertiary education system keeps better pace with industry needs.

“Businesses know that universities are one of Australia’s key economic and strategic assets. Investing in universities is investing in our economic future.

“We thank Professors Dawkins and Bean for contributing their expertise and for consulting with business on this important review.”
