Cultural Diversity Week, which runs from Monday 18 March to Sunday 24 March 2024, is an annual celebration of the state’s diverse and powerful multicultural communities. Cultural Diversity Week has been a driver for starting conversation and building connections between cultures for over two decades.

The 2024 Cultural Diversity Week theme invites us to weave a tapestry of vibrant experiences with “Our Shared Stories – Celebrating Together.” This powerful theme goes beyond individual narratives, encouraging us to recognise and celebrate the beautiful intersections that enrich our culturally diverse state.

Council will launch Cultural Diversity Week on Monday 18 March with Sample Shepp & GV, a bite-sized taste of the culturally diverse and inspiring region at the Greater Shepparton Visitor Centre. From 10.00am to 12.00pm every day during the week, you can sample a tasty treat from some of the many diverse cultures that call Shepparton home.

Throughout the week, residents and visitors can take part in a range of events including:

  • Movie nights at the Shepparton Library
  • Cultural Diversity Quiz at the Tatura Library
  • HOLI – Festival of Colours at Ferrari Park, Mooroopna
  • Harmony Day at the Shepparton Golf Club
  • Sashiko for beginners at the Mooroopna Library

Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, encouraged residents to acknowledge and celebrate Cultural Diversity Week by taking part in the calendar of events.

“Greater Shepparton is known for its rich diversity and large multicultural community. Cultural Diversity Week gives us all an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the different backgrounds which make up our region,” he said.

“Around 15 per cent of our population was born in a country other than Australia. Cultural Diversity Week allows us bring people together to promote and embrace community harmony, and celebrate the many cultures that make Greater Shepparton and Australia so vibrant.”
