Green light for construction of Bayside Netball Centre

Construction of the Bayside Netball Centre on the Sandringham College Holloway Road campus can now proceed as planned following the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT)’s dismissal of an application regarding the use of the centre.

Construction will shortly commence on the two indoor courts, nine outdoor courts (including the covered outdoor court), lighting and shelters, a car park, sportsground, and surrounding landscaping and fencing.

Bayside Mayor, Cr Alex del Porto welcomed the decision which will provide a huge benefit to netballers and bring additional benefits to school students.

“We know how important these new courts will be to Bayside’s growing netball community.

“As one of Bayside’s most popular sports, we will finally be able to cater to the increasing demand and address the current court shortage.

“We are delighted that we can now proceed with this exciting and important community project and get ready to welcome netballers to the court in 2023.”

The courts will be available for school use outside training and competition hours, with the oval available for cricket.

The works will be delivered the Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA) beginning in mid-June with the new courts ready by August 2023.

The current netball centre at Thomas Street will remain in place until the completion of the new centre at Holloway Road. The community will be invited to share ideas for its new use as open space in a master planning process.
