Greens call for recommitment to Belconnen Town Centre School

The ACT Government’s updated Education Infrastructure Plan has removed a 2019 commitment to deliver a primary school for the Belconnen Town Centre.

“This is a step backwards for the delivery of a much-needed new school in the Belconnen Town Centre,” said Jo Clay, ACT Greens Member for Ginninderra.

“Belconnen residents, the ACT Council of Parents & Citizens Associations and the Belconnen Community Council have all been calling for a primary school for many years.

“Despite being included in the 2019 Infrastructure Plan, there is no longer a mention of the construction of a new school in the Belconnen Town Centre in the 2023 update.

“Belconnen Town Centre is growing fast – with more than 5,000 homes and thousands more in the pipeline.

“There are around 600 primary school-aged children living in the Belconnen Town Centre and they need access to a local school that they can walk or ride to.

“Belconnen families need this school now and the need will only increase.

“I’m calling for real plans to be made to build a new primary school for the Belconnen Town Centre,” said Ms Clay.
