Griffith community grants program funding awarded

Griffith City Council has awarded community grants to eight local organisations allowing them to deliver a range of community-based projects.

Director Economic and Organisational Development, Shireen Donaldson said the Community Grant Program supports applications from organisations that address the needs of the community as outlined in Council’s Community Strategic Plan.

The program also supports individuals who are attending significant activities or events at a State and National level.

“The aim is to support new initiatives, activities and projects that increase community capacity to address unmet needs, improve well-being and harmony, and reduce isolation of disadvantaged groups,” said Mrs Donaldson.

“Congratulations to the successful applicants which represent a wide variety of communities right across Griffith, we’re sure these grants will help make all these projects a success.”

Griffith Mayor, Councillor Doug Curran said Council is pleased to support activities which improve welfare and provide positive outcomes for the community.

“The Community Grant Program is a great way to help local organisations and individuals reach their goals,” said Councillor Curran.

“We have heard from some parts of the community that during these difficult financial periods we should suspend our community grants program but I honestly feel the benefit to some of the most needy segments of our community are worth fighting for and I want to see the program continue.

“The work being done by these groups is invaluable and will flow on to our community.”
