Civil construction and landscaping business outside ideas will deliver a leadership program to upskill 12 supervisors, supported by $80,000 in funding from the Marshall Liberal Government through the Skilling South Australia initiative.
Premier Steven Marshall said outside ideas was a prime example of a growing South Australian business focused on training the next generation of skilled workers in South Australia.
“This is an outstanding SA business providing wonderful opportunities for apprentices to gain a foothold in the landscape and civil construction industry – and the State Government is proud to partner with them on this important Skilling South Australia project,” Premier Marshall said.
Minister for Innovation and Skills David Pisoni said the Building Supervisor Capability program will allow the South Australian business to take on 20 new apprentices, providing each with in-house mentoring and one-on-one training with a senior employee.
“This Skilling South Australia project will ensure the company’s leadership group has the skills required to train, mentor and supervise an increased group of civil construction, landscape and concrete workers,” Minister Pisoni said.
“Taking on an apprentice is a valuable training investment to reap the future rewards of a loyal, tailor-made employee, and I commend outside ideas on building capability in their existing workforce while committing to a sustainable growth model that nurtures apprentices from the ground up.
“Ensuring that team leaders on all worksites can confidently support their workforce will allow the company to increase their apprentice numbers to more than 30 apprentices in 2019-20.”
outside ideas Director Aaron Superina said the funding had helped the company commence its first round of education for management in June to further develop managers through a training solution that has been designed for its people, its workforce and its specific needs.
“We believe in growing our workforce from within. Many of our employees started their career with Outside Ideas and we know that we need to invest in them so they can lead the company into the future,” Mr Superina said.
“By empowering our managers and giving them the chance to improve their leadership skills, our employee engagement will benefit and so will our productivity. We want people to see working at Outside Ideas as a career choice, not just a job.”

Skilling South Australia is a partnership with the Federal Government to create an additional 20,800 apprenticeships and traineeships over four years.
Skilling South Australia projects are State Government funded initiatives co-designed with industry to increase the uptake of apprenticeships and traineeships across the state.
