GST No Worse Off extension win for Tasmanians

Jeremy Rockliff, Premier

The Tasmanian Liberal Government has scored a key win in the fight for Tasmania’s fair share of GST.

Premier Jeremy Rockliff today attended the National Cabinet in Canberra as the No Worse Off Guarantee was extended for a further three years from 2027-28.

“This outcome is a result of Tasmanian advocacy on the national stage,” the Premier said.

“We have been relentlessly lobbying the Federal Government regarding GST distributions and today’s outcome is a good step forward.

“Rest assured that while this outcome guarantees hundreds of millions more in GST distributions to Tasmania, we will not stop our pursuit of a permanent and ongoing agreement to ensure that we always receive our fair share.”

Treasurer Michael Ferguson welcomed today’s announcement following on from robust discussions with state and territories Treasurers last week.

“We have been dogged in our pursuit of the Federal Government over this matter,” the Treasurer said.

“GST No Worse Off Guarantee payments are critical to Tasmania’s finances, and represent approximately $324 million in revenue to the State over the Budget and Forward Estimates.

“We will continue working with the Federal Government to ensure Tasmania’s fair share of national revenues continues.”
