A man has been arrested following the discovery of homemade firearms, weapons and drugs in his vehicle at Elizabeth yesterday.
Northern District patrols stopped a Mazda sedan on Judd Road, Elizabeth, at about 1.40pm on Wednesday 12 August. While speaking with the driver, officers allegedly sighted a knife inside the vehicle and subsequently conducted a search.
It will be alleged that police located a firearm in the boot, along with ammunition, other weapons, drugs, stolen number plates and disguises.
Further checks revealed the vehicle was displaying falsified number plates.
The driver, a 40-year-old Hillbank man, was arrested.
Just before 6pm on the same day, police attended the man’s home to conduct a search. It will be alleged that officers located a homemade firearm, a folding handgun designed to resemble a mobile phone, a modified gel blaster, homemade ammunition, firearm accessories and cannabis.
The 40-year-old was charged with multiple offences, including possessing firearms without a licence, carrying offensive weapons, possessing a controlled drug and unlawful possession.
He was refused police bail and appeared in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court today (Thursday 13 August).
