A cancer diagnosis can often feel overwhelming. You may not know what services are available in WA or how to access this support.

We offer support services for everyone who is affected by cancer, from the point of diagnosis through to life after cancer. Our Supportive Care Director, Melanie Marsh, explains the cancer support services that we have available for West Australians impacted by cancer.

What support services are available at Cancer Council WA?

Our support services are focused on holistic support to people diagnosed with cancer, their families, and their broader support networks, including friends and colleagues.

This includes:

  • Emotional support
  • Legal and financial counselling
  • Regional services and accommodation
  • Wig service
  • Access to resources

“Our main goal is to ensure that people feel supported and cared for during their cancer experience”, Melanie explains.

An extension of your medical care

Cancer isn’t just about medical appointments and treatment – there are emotional, social, and financial challenges too. Our support services focus on present-day needs of those who are impacted by a cancer diagnosis.

This includes:

  • Financial burdens, such as lost income and travel costs
  • Emotional challenges arising from being far from family and support networks
  • Ongoing mental and physical issues post-treatment

“We aim to provide the human connection and holistic care to help people live the best possible life while they are undergoing one of the most difficult experiences of their life”, Melanie shares.

How much do the support services cost?

Many of our services are available for free to West Australians impacted by cancer, thanks to generous community donations.

Our free services include:

  • 13 11 20 Cancer Information and Support Line for anyone impacted by cancer.
  • Cancer Counselling Services, available face-to-face or telephone
  • Wig Service
  • Life Now Exercise and Meditative courses
  • Complementary therapies including Reflexology, Massage, Reiki therapy and beauty therapy
  • Legal and financial advice

Our Lodges are available at a low cost or no cost if subsidised through PATS , depending on your eligibility. To see the rates of our Lodges, visit our Accommodation in Perth page.

You don’t have to wait for a crisis

We are here for everyone affected by cancer at any stage. Whether it’s to speak with one of our cancer nurses, getting access to financial counselling, or our wig services, we want to help lessen the impact of cancer. You don’t have to wait until crisis hits.
