Have Your Say on a place name in Blacktown LGA

The Geographical Names Board (GNB) is seeking community feedback on a proposal by Blacktown City Council to name a reserve in the suburb of Doonside as Warren Hardy Park.

The reserve is located alongside the Main Western Railway west of Rosenthal Street and connects to Cygnus Close.

The proposed name seeks to commemorate Warren Hardy (1961- 2021) who was an advocate, volunteer and activist for the Doonside community for more than 20 years.

Mr Hardy worked alongside community and state organisations such as local Aboriginal Elders, Doonside Public School P&C, the Doonside Estate Action Committee Council, NSW Cancer Council ‘Relay for Life’, Blacktown City Council and NSW Community Corrections Offices.

Through his volunteer work Mr Hardy supported his local community, assisting in events such as NAIDOC celebrations, community gardens to raise suicide awareness, community clean ups and garden maintenance for the elderly and disabled.

GNB is seeking feedback to gauge community sentiment for the proposed name. Suggestions for alternative names are not being sought at this time.

Details of the proposal can be viewed, and submissions lodged on the GNB website.

Alternatively, written submissions may be mailed to the Secretary, Geographical Names Board, 346 Panorama Ave, Bathurst, NSW 2795.

The closing date for submissions is 19 November 2023.
