The Geographical Names Board (GNB) is seeking community feedback on a proposal by Willoughby City Council to name a park as Keep Reserve.
Chair of the Geographical Names Board Narelle Underwood said feedback is being sought on the proposal to name Keep Reserve.
The reserve is located south of The Rampart in the suburb of Castlecrag, extending into the suburb of Northbridge.
Keep Reserve was the name given by Walter Burley Griffin in his design of the Castlecrag Estate in 1921.
Griffin designed the estate in sympathy with the natural environment and named roads and reserves after parts of a castle.
Keep Reserve sits below a major rock escarpment where the sandstone formations could be interpreted as a ‘castle keep’.
Mrs Underwood said the Board is encouraging community comment before it considers the proposal.
“It is important that place names reflect the character and history of the local area and community,” she said.
“We want to make sure everyone has an opportunity to provide their feedback on the proposed name.”
GNB is seeking feedback to gauge community sentiment for the proposed name. Suggestions for alternative names are not being sought at this time.
