The Geographical Names Board (GNB) is seeking community feedback on a proposal by Wingecarribee Shire Council to rename the locality of Balmoral to Balmoral Village.
Right now residents of Balmoral in Wingecarribee Shire Council are faced with service and delivery issues due to the name being duplicated in Lake Macquarie and Mosman Local Government Areas.
The proposed name Balmoral Village would support the community desire to remain connected with the history of the area while differentiating it sufficiently to alleviate confusion with the duplication.
GNB is seeking feedback to gauge community sentiment for the proposed name with suggestions for alternative names not being sought at this time.
Details of the proposal can be viewed and submissions lodged on the Geographical Names Board’s website from 21 June until 21 July 2023.
