Have your say on Tasmania’s healthcare future

Jeremy Rockliff,Minister for Health

Tasmanians are being encouraged to have their say on the future of health services in Tasmania, following the release of a key document outlining our healthcare vision.

Released today, the Exposure Draft of “Our Healthcare Future: Advancing Tasmania’s Health” sets out a shared vision and policy direction for the future of health services in Tasmania over the next 20 years.

It details a shared vision that all Tasmanians are supported by a world-class, innovative and integrated health system that is collaborative, consumer-centred, equitable and evidence-based.

This document has been developed with guidance from an Expert Advisory Group, and in consultation with key stakeholders and organisations and outlines several key strategic policy areas for future health reform that will be central to delivering our vision.

These include partnering with consumers and clinicians, building the health workforce, strengthening preventive health, strengthening Tasmania’s pandemic response, increasing community care accessibility, and delivering health infrastructure for the future.

The Exposure Draft represents an important milestone in our commitment to developing a long-term plan for Tasmania’s health services.

Now we want people to tell us what they think.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government has already invested heavily in these areas and, with the 2022-23 Tasmanian Budget committing record health funding of $11.2 billion over four years, will continue to build on the investment in coming years.

“Our Healthcare Future: Advancing Tasmania’s Health” sits alongside the Healthy Tasmania Five-Year Strategic Plan, which was released in March of this year to guide preventative health initiatives across all levels of government and in partnership with communities.

A companion document, Drivers of Tasmania’s Future Population Health Needs, is also being released today, providing further information on key trends which will influence health planning into the future.

I want to thank everyone who has contributed to this important process so far – particularly those individuals and organisations who prepared written submissions and the members of our Expert Advisory Group.
