The National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting a 2-day hazard reduction burn in Parr State Conservation Area this weekend, weather permitting.
NPWS Wollemi-Yengo Area Manager Phil Bryant said the hazard reduction burn is being undertaken to reduce fuel loads in the area and consolidate earlier burns.
“The 130 hectare burn will take place between Greens Road, Bicentenary Road and Chaseling Road South adjacent to properties in Lower Portland between Wisemans Ferry and Colo,” Mr Bryant said.
A section of Parr State Conservation Area will be closed during the hazard reduction operation. Visitors should check NPWS Alerts for up-to-date information and closures.
“The burn will commence at approximately 10am on Saturday 12 August with crews continuing into the evening, finishing up on Sunday, weather permitting.
“Smoke from the burn may impact on the area and we thank our neighbours for their understanding. Drivers in particular are warned to take care.”
Anyone vulnerable to smoke is encouraged to remain indoors and keep doors and windows closed to reduce any possible exposure.
