Health funding facts website launched

A new Health Funding Facts website has been launched to help families and communities see how they are benefiting from the Liberal National Government’s strong track record on guaranteeing essential health services for all Australians.

www.health.gov.au/health-funding-facts is a one-stop-shop enabling Australians to access data on how the Morrison Government is investing in:

• Record health and hospital funding

• Historic high bulk billing rates

• A record number of life-saving medicines subsidised through the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS).

Our Government’s record on health is second to none.

The website allows users to select the three types of funding:

• Hospital funding– enter your postcode or your local public hospital from the menu to reveal the Australian Government’s funding;

• Medicare funding– enter your postcode or federal electorate to find out how much Medicare funding was received between 2012 13 and 2017 18;

• PBS funding– enter your postcode or your federal electorate to reveal how much was received in PBS benefits by people in that area between 2012 13 and 2017 18.

Since the last election, the Government has passed a Medicare Guarantee through the Parliament which write our Medicare and the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) guarantees into legislation, so more families can have these essential services when they need them most.

Our stronger economy has enabled the Coalition Government to deliver record federal funding for public hospital services, increasing from $13.3 billion in 2012-13 when Labor left office to a record $21.1 billion this year – a 54 percent increase.

Currently in Australia, close to nine out of every 10 GP services are bulk billed, meaning that Australian patients do not have any out of pocket costs when they visit their local GP.

And since 2013, the Coalition Government has added more than 2,000 new or amended items on the PBS.

On average, around 30 new PBS listings are occurring across Australia every month—or one each day— from an overall Government investment of around $10.6 billion.

In the 2018–19 Budget we announced an additional $2.4 billion for new medicines, including $1 billion set aside for the provision of future medicines.

These medicines will assist people suffering from conditions such as breast cancer, spinal muscular atrophy, heart disease, epilepsy and severe asthma.

We can only guarantee these essential health services – stronger health and hospitals funding, historic high bulk billing rates and a record number of PBS listings – through a stronger economy.

The Morrison Government’s plan for a stronger economy with more jobs and economic growth means better, more reliable health services for all Australians.
