Helensburgh Pool upgrade to make big splash – Wollongong

Now’s your chance to imagine what the well-loved Helensburgh Pool could look like.

Wollongong City Council is calling for feedback on a draft concept plan for the Helensburgh Pool. You have until Sunday 7 May to share your thoughts on the project and have your ideas incorporated into the project brief which will go to a specialist aquatic designer.

Council is proposing that the major upgrade will include:

  • Replace the existing pool with a new 25 metre pool with 6 lanes, a contemporary accessible ramp style entry and wet deck perimeter (which makes the water surface level with the surrounding paving)
  • A water splash pad
  • New LED Floodlighting
  • A solar shade structure
  • New filtration system and tanks.

Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM said that the project would form one part of the Helensburgh Park’s multisport facility upgrade.

“Council is working closely with the NSW Government to invest in improving sporting infrastructure in Helensburgh. This includes all the works planned for the Helensburgh Pool as well as projects to improve the neighbouring sportsgrounds,” Cr Bradbery said.

“We know that our community love and value the Helensburgh Pool. At the same time, the pool shell and filtration have reached the end of its life and its time for a major upgrade. The proposed works will not only provide contemporary facilities for years to come, but it also presents us with an opportunity to redesign the pool and add more modern water play facilities.”
