Help develop Smiths Beach Town Plan

Bass Coast Shire Council is seeking feedback from the community, to help shape the future of Phillip Island’s Smiths Beach.

Public consultation will take place throughout June and will consider the improvements needed to help strengthen, protect and support the longevity of the town and its popular stretch of surf beach.

Feedback received during the consultation period will help Council develop the Smiths Beach Town Plan, which will aim to enhance the experience of residents, as well as protect the unique vegetation, wildlife and coastline environments.

Community input is being sought on a number of initiatives, such as land use changes, infrastructure delivery and activation ideas.

Bass Coast Mayor, Cr Brett Tessari, said it’s important that the wider community has a say about what they see as the short, medium and long term priorities for Smiths Beach.

“We know the beach is extremely popular with both locals and visitors for surfing, swimming, stand up paddle boarding, snorkelling and fishing,” Cr Tessari said.

“It is really important that improvements made to the town address the needs of the community, while protecting the natural environment, so that’s why we need your feedback.

“This is your chance to have a significant influence on the future of one of Phillip Island’s iconic beach townships,” Cr Tessari concluded.
