Helping Monash to recycle right

Recycling is important, but knowing what you can and can’t put in your recycling and green waste bins can be confusing at times.

We want to help Monash residents recycle correctly so more recyclable items can be sorted and turned into new products, and food and garden waste can be composted for use on farms and gardens.

From next week, we’ll be working with an external company to visually inspect recycling and green waste bins and provide feedback on residents’ recycling efforts. We’ll help you learn what can and can’t go in your recycling and green waste bins by letting you know if you are recycling right or if there are items in your bins that don’t belong.

A visual inspection means lifting the bin lid and looking at the items at the top of the bin. The inspection will take place on the morning of collection day, with only bins placed out for collection on the kerbside, being inspected.

If your bin has been inspected, we’ll leave a tag on your bin and a note in your letterbox with feedback. We will work with you to help you understand the feedback and how to use your recycling and green waste bins correctly. You’ll also be able to contact us with any questions you have about the feedback you have received.
