Mosman Council has voted unanimously to double Mosman’s Heritage Fund and increase grant amounts by at least 50%.
Council will double the Fund from $30,000 to $60,000, and increase available grant amounts from $1,000 – $3,000, to $1,500 – $5,000.
The Fund offers dollar for dollar grants to facilitate restoration of original external features in properties that are heritage listed or located within a Heritage Conservation Area. Eligible projects include fencing, roof restoration, replacing original tiles, restoring facades or shopfront awnings, repairing timber joinery, and decorative details such as painting or brick tuck-pointing.
Heritage features are a key contributor to Mosman’s unique appeal and village atmosphere, and it is hoped the Fund increase will give businesses along the Military Road Heritage Conservation Area more opportunity to improve the heritage aspects of Mosman’s retail precinct.
The Military Road Heritage Conservation Area runs along Military Road between Prince Albert Street and Myahgah Road, a popular strip of cafes, boutiques and shops, many of which are housed in heritage listed buildings or have significant heritage features.
Mayor Carolyn Corrigan said Council is pleased to support the heritage aspects of Mosman’s shopping village, and hopes that commercial building owners and tenants take advantage of the opportunity to improve their property and the streetscape. “This Fund aims to help maintain a high level of visual and historic character in the area. Mosman’s shopping high street has heritage significance, and the special aesthetic qualities that reflect Mosman’s unique identity and heritage are of great value and to be encouraged.”
Council encourages owners and tenants of commercial properties in the Military Road Conservation Area that would benefit from a heritage restoration project to apply for financial support via the Mosman Heritage Fund.
