High end handbag heist investigation continues

Melbourne Crime Investigation Unit detectives continue to investigate the theft of designer handbags from a hotel in the CBD with another appeal for information two months since the brazen heist.

It’s believed an unknown male has entered a hotel on Little Collins Street about 4pm on 14 July.

The man used a swipe card in the lift and selected all floors, eventually gaining access to a privately owned apartment on one of the higher floors.

He was in the apartment for about 30 minutes before leaving with a small suit case and large cardboard box filled with 20 designer bags worth an estimated $200,000.

The designer bags included Hermes, Dior, Chanel and Burberry.

He got back into the lift and left the building via Coates Lane.

The man struggled with the box, dropping some of the bags onto the street, before getting into a taxi and fleeing the scene.

Investigators have released CCTV and images of a man they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.

Anyone with information or who may recognise the man is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
