High range drink driver arrested this morning, South Australia

A drink driver has been arrested following crash after he allegedly tried to avoid a driver testing station.

Just before 9am, Tuesday 1 January, police were conducting a driver testing station at Mount Barker Road Stirling when they noticed a car had stopped prior to the testing station and begun to reverse up the off ramp.

Patrols attempted to stop the car on the freeway however the driver sped off towards Bridgewater before crashing into a guard rail on Carey Gully Road, Mount George.

A 53-year-old man from Bridgewater was arrested and taken to Mount Barker Police Station where he submitted to a breath test and recorded a reading of 0.240. He was charged with dangerous driving, drink driving, driving disqualified and engaging in police pursuit and has been bailed to appear in the Mount Barker Magistrates Court on 13 February.
