Police from Mount Isa Highway Patrol Unit have charged a 26-year-old Winston man following an intercept in Mount Isa yesterday, 26 September.
It will be alleged around 11:20am, police intercepted a red-blue Honda CBR600RR after it was observed travelling at 194km/h in a 100km/h zone on the Barkly Highway.
The man was issued a Traffic Infringement Notice (TIN) for exceeding the speed limit by more than 40km/h resulting in a $1986 fine, the loss of eight demerit points and a six-month licence suspension.
Mount Isa Highway Patrol Sergeant Aaron Cole motorists to drive with due care on all rural and remote roads and highways.
“This is about saving lives,” Sgt Cole said. “Travelling at excessive speeds such as this is inexcusable and risks your life and the lives of other road users.
“Police will continue to adopt a zero-tolerance policy of unsafe driving to deter these behaviours.
“Officers can be anywhere at any time conducting proactive patrols to reduce road trauma.”
