On Saturday, 19 September 2026, officers from Road Policing Group and Breath and Drug Operations conducted a major road policing operation across coastal metropolitan areas between Fremantle and Mandurah, with support from Road Safety Commission speed cameras, targeting impaired drivers and motorists whose dangerous and unlawful behaviour puts lives at risk on Western Australian roads.
Between 7.00am and 2.00am the following day, four teams operated across Fremantle, North Coogee, Rockingham, Golden Bay and Mandurah, moving between multiple locations throughout the operation to expand enforcement coverage and increase opportunities to identify impaired drivers and other traffic offenders.
During the operation, officers conducted more than 6,000 breath tests and more than 200 roadside drug tests, resulting in several offences being detected, including:
• 302 motorists speeding
• 24 motorists driving unregistered vehicles
• 18 motorists driving with illicit substances in their system
• 14 motorists driving under the influence of alcohol
• 20 motorists driving without authority
Seven vehicles were also impounded as a result of the operation.
In one incident, police will allege a 19-year-old man travelling on Read Street in Rockingham returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.162, more than three times the legal limit. Subsequent police inquiries identified the vehicle as being linked to two outstanding hoon-related incidents. The driver was charged with “Drove a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol,’ issued with a disqualification notice, and the vehicle was impounded. He is due to appear before Rockingham Magistrates Court on 29 October 2026.
WA Police will continue practising the mantra of ‘anywhere, anytime’ to influence safe road user behaviour through a highly visible policing presence.

“There is simply no excuse for the behaviour detected during this operation. Officers encountered drivers affected by alcohol and illicit drugs, motorists speeding, and people driving without authority, despite the well-known risks and consequences associated with these offences.
“The vast majority of road users do the right thing, but a small number continue to make reckless decisions that endanger everyone around them. WA Police will continue targeting these drivers wherever and whenever they choose to take that risk.”
