Tasmania Police and Department of State Growth Transport Safety and Investigation Officers conducted a high visibility traffic operation and business visit at Cambridge Park Industrial Estate today.
Inspector Jon Cooper from the East Coast Division said that about 140 motorists were pulled over and subject to either a random breath or drug test and vehicle safety check.
Offences detected during the traffic operation included:
- 2 x positive drug tests
- 14 x vehicle defect notices
- 1 x L-plater driving without a licensed driver beside them
- 1 x driving whilst disqualified from driving
- 2 x speeding.
“Common defects discovered today included defective tyres, suspension and non-functioning lighting”.
“We are reminding road users of the need to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy and safe to operate at all times.”
“Tasmania Police would like to thank the majority of road users who comply with the road rules.”
“Unfortunately, there are a number of people who continue to drive illegally, use unroadworthy vehicles and/or drive while illicit drugs are present in their system.”
“We will continue to conduct high visibility operations to keep the Tasmanian community safe,” said Inspector Cooper.

“44 businesses were visited by police during the operation to speak with proprietors about their business security arrangements and after-hours contact details.”
“Businesses can submit keyholder details for storage in a database by police.”
“Should the business be involved in an incident outside of trading hours, keyholder information may assist police in their response.”
