High voltage Targa Tasmania

Peter Gutwein,Minister for the Environment, Parks and Heritage

The Hodgman majority Liberal Government welcomes the announcement that electric vehicles will participate in Targa Tasmania for the first time for the event’s 30th anniversary in 2021.

The 2021 event will introduce a GT Electric competition and a non-competitive Targa EV Tour, which will provide an exciting opportunity for Tasmania to showcase emission-free, quiet and high-performance electric vehicles.

The Hodgman majority Liberal Government is proud to support Targa Tasmania, which is an iconic, world-class event.

The event complements the Tasmanian Government’s commitment to support electric vehicle uptake under Climate Action 21: Tasmania’s Climate Change Action Plan 2017-2021, including the rollout of a state-wide electric vehicle charging network.

Tasmania is ideally suited to benefit from a growing electric vehicle market, especially when powered by our locally-produced renewable energy, they have the potential to improve the efficiency of the state’s vehicle fleet, through reduced transport emissions and costs.
