The Australian Bureau of Statistics shows continued improvement for Tasmanian residential building approvals, recording the highest number in four years.
There were 287 residential building approvals in August 2026, up 36.7 per cent on August 2025, and greatly outpacing the national average of 9.1 per cent.
Approvals for the previous 12 months is 2,854, an increase of 22.5 per cent on the prior 12 months.
Minister for Housing and Planning, Kerry Vincent, welcomed this news.
“We have been working tirelessly to ensure more homes are being delivered,” Minister Vincent said.
“We are releasing more land, building more houses, and want to see this positive trend continue.
“These are hundreds of homes to be built for our fellow Tasmanians, and we want to see even more.
“Through our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future we’ll continue to deliver on the things that matter, like more houses.”
