Highfields Police Station and Newtown Police Facility officially opened

Minister for Police and Minister for Corrective Services, the Honourable Mark Ryan MP joined Commissioner Katarina Carroll for the official opening of the new Highfields Police Station and Newtown Police Facility.

Having been completed and operational since June this year, the new station at Highfields is bringing an increased level of service to the growing area north of Toowoomba.

The Highfields Police Station has seven officers attached to it, made up of an officer in charge and six senior constables/constables and has been built to cater for future expansion.

The new Highfields Police Station is located on Dau Road, Highfields

Commissioner Carroll said the new station and its associated facilities are a great asset to support police officers in servicing the Highfields policing division.

“This new station allows our frontline officers to meet the growing needs of the community and to maintain their high levels of service,” Commissioner Carroll said.

“The officers at Highfields Police Station are now equipped to deliver a stronger community presence in a suburb which is continuing to grow and I would like to recognise the ongoing work of our police officers in keeping our communities safe.”

The area was previously policed by a one-officer Neighbourhood Police Beat which was originally opened in 2004.

The station was officially opened on September 3

The newly opened Newtown Police Facility is located on Bridge Street, Newtown and was completed earlier this year with police commencing operations there from May 11.

The facility houses a mixture of sworn officers from the District Crime Prevention Unit, the Cross Cultural Liaison Unit as well as a number of Volunteers in Policing.

Commissioner Carroll said the location of this new facility was of high importance and would allow for a positive flow on effect for officers in surrounding stations.

“It’s important to have police positioned strategically where we need them,” Commissioner Carroll said.

“The community and the Queensland Police Service recognised the need for more officers in this area, so it’s wonderful to see this facility now established and housing these officers in such a central location for Newtown community members.

“The officers at the Newtown Police Facility will continue working closely with general duties officers in surrounding stations with a focus on crime prevention and community interaction.”
