A talent showcase, family fun day at Balcombe Heights Estate, basketball competition, a skate jam, art therapy workshop, outdoor cinema and a youth festival with tattoo airbrushing are just some of the exciting events, entertainment and activities on offer this Youth Week.
The Hills Shire Council is getting behind the state-wide initiative, which celebrates young people and their contributions to their community, this April 18 – 29.
Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Peter Gangemi said it’s one of the largest youth dedicated festivals in the Shire.
“We are very excited to host a number of events in The Hills this Youth Week,” Mayor Gangemi said.
“This year’s theme is ‘connect, participate, celebrate’ and that’s what we’ve tried to emulate across all our planned activities.
“I’m proud that Council is supporting this special week, which is dedicated to thanking our youngest residents for everything that they do for this region,” Mayor Gangemi added.
Council’s Youth Week celebrations have been put together with the help of local youth organisations, Council’s youth-based volunteer group, the Hills Youth Army and the Sydney Hills Youth Ambassadors, Rebecca Yu and Hayley Mogilin.
Youth Week events:
Outdoor Cinema + Youth Festival, presented by Youth Rezolutions
Join your friends for a fun afternoon of activities, stalls, outdoor cinema, ice cream and much more, while also raising awareness of youth homelessness.

This event is suitable for people aged 12-25 years.

Family Fun Day, presented by Hills Community Aid
Come down to Balcombe Heights Estate with your family and friends and take part in all the FREE activities on offer, including a treasure hunt, information stalls, a jumping castle and more. A sausage sizzle and a coffee van will also be available to purchase food and coffee on the day.

Youth, Get Moving! 3×3 Basketball Competition, supported by Hills Hornets
Get your teams together for a fun day of social 3 v 3 basketball at Bernie Mullane Sports Complex.The winners of the competition will then play off against Castle Hill Police.

1pm – 4pm on Friday, April 21 at Bernie Mullane Sports Complex.
This event is suitable for people of all abilities, aged 12-25 years.

Youth Skate Jam!
Grab your skateboard or scooter and head down to Crestwood Reserve Skatepark for the Youth Skate Jam. There’s two sessions to choose from, including a Mentoring Session, which is suitable for people who can skate, but are looking to improve on their skills. The Self Expression Session is a freestyle event that is open to all ages. The day will then finish with a FREE sausage sizzle from Hillsong City Care and a skate demonstration from Totem Skate.

Art Therapy presented by Uniting Church Social Care and Community Services
It’s time for some relaxing art therapy! This workshop will provide a safe space for young people to work through their emotions via the healing powers of art.

10am – noon on Saturday, April 29 at Vinegar Hill Memorial Library at Rouse Hill Town Centre.
This event is suitable for young people aged 10-15 years.
Cost: Free, but registrations are required.
Youth Goes Live, supported by Rouse Hill Town Centre
Support your talented peers as they perform live at Market Square in Rouse Hill Town Centre as part of the Youth Goes Live event. The day will also include the announcement of the 2023/2024 Sydney Hills Youth Ambassadors.
