Hindley Street Station to move, South Australia

The Hindley Street Police Station is moving to a new location at 5 Leigh Street (on the corner of Hindley Street) in November.

The existing station has occupied 28-30 Hindley Street since 1992. Commercial negotiations for short term extension have not achieved the outcomes desired, so SA Police will leave this premises at the end of the current lease, by 30 November 2020.

Assistant Commissioner Scott Duval said some SAPOL staff would temporarily re-locate to Roma Mitchell House, which is located in the Hindley Street precinct. An interim front counter/interview room will be established at the Leigh Street premises until the new and significantly expanded station is fully operational.

“Patrols will continue to operate in and around the Hindley Street area and members of the public will see no change to operational response, nor any change in service provided at the front counter,” AC Duval said.

The new police station will have an expanded work area and be fit for purpose. Its customer reception area will be established on Hindley Street.

“The new tenancy will provide substantial improvement to Hindley Street operations, and enable improved front counter and public interview rooms to manage operational activity,” he said.

“The new station will be fit for purpose which will enable more effective operations, including expanded CCTV /incident management capability and facilities for police officers.”

Minister for Police, Emergency Services and Correctional Services Vincent Tarzia said a dedicated police presence would continue to patrol the Hindley Street precinct.

“The Police Commissioner has assured me that front counter services will be maintained through the transition process,” Minister Tarzia said.
