Historic Schoolhouse to be restored following monsoon

The historic Horseshoe Bay Schoolhouse will be restored from this week following damage sustained during the unprecedented monsoon.

Townsville City Council has engaged Pattersons Build Group to complete repair works on the building.

Local Councillor Ann-Maree Greaney said it was great the building would be restored and would maintain the heritage qualities.

“There are a number of really interesting historic sites right across the city that Council wants to maintain for the benefit of the entire community,” Cr Greaney said.

“The restoration of the Schoolhouse at Horseshoe Bay is another step in our recovery and Pattersons is working with us to make sure we meet all the heritage requirements for the building.

“Once these repairs are finished, the Schoolhouse will be back on the sightseeing stops for the Magnetic Island Historic Trail and all the events usually booked for the space will be able to continue as normal.”

The works include restoring the roof and walls, fresh paint and new lighting and begins today.
