Hit-run car torched – Regency Park, South Australia

A ute involved in a hit-run crash with a set of traffic lights in the city has been set alight at Regency Park.

Just on 10pm on Wednesday 5 August, Eastern District police received information that a red utility had knocked over a traffic light pole, at the intersection of Frome Road and North Terrace in the city and then left the scene. Patrols searched the area but the ute wasn’t located.

A few minutes later a motorist reported seeing a red utility speeding west along Torrens Road at Kilkenny with the front bumper bar hanging from the front of the vehicle. Again police patrols searched the area but the red ute wasn’t located.

Just after 11pm police and fire crews were called to Wirriga Street a small side street off Main South Road at Regency Park, after reports of a vehicle on fire.

On arrival, the vehicle was well engulfed in flame with a jerry can near the vehicle. The vehicle was then identified as the red utility that was involved in the hit-run crash with the traffic light pole in the city.

Crime Scene examiners will be examining the vehicle and jerry can. Police enquiries are continuing with registered owner of the vehicle.

Anyone with information on any of the above incidents is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
