Hit-run collision in St Kilda

Police are investigating a collision in St Kilda that left a cyclist with fractured vertebrae.

Investigators have been told a 43-year-old woman was cycling northbound along Chapel Street about 5.20am on Tuesday 17 March.

A white Mercedes has tried to overtake a truck on the inside lane, hitting the cyclist.

The cyclist ended up on the bonnet of the Mercedes before falling onto the road.

The Mercedes drove around the victim, did a U-turn and drove off, leaving the woman badly injured on the road.

The Elwood woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries which will require approximately 12 weeks of rehabilitation.

Further enquiries revealed the Mercedes involved had been stolen from a Malvern address on 16 February.

It was found burnt out in Altona a few hours after the collision.

Investigators have released CCTV of the incident in the hope someone may recognise the vehicle and come forward.
