Homelessness NSW strongly endorses the government’s review of short-term accommodation and options to fix the housing and homelessness crisis.
Homelessness NSW CEO Dom Rowe said:
“All options to tackle the homelessness crisis must be on the table. We need to boost housing supply across the board to ensure everyone has a safe place to call home.
“NSW needs to build 5,000 social housing dwellings a year for the next decade while exploring immediate measures to free up long-term rental availability.
“Homelessness NSW strongly endorses using revenue from any short-term accommodation reform to increase funding for homelessness solutions.
“Underfunded and overfull frontline services are forced to make heartbreaking choices about who to help, with one in every two people turned away.
“NSW must increase funding for specialist homelessness services by 20 per cent, as Queensland has done to stop people being turned away who are in need.”
