Street theatre performances, shop front gallery projections and an online musical arts showcase are the first three works funded through Hobsons Bay City Council’s Art Apart creative grants.

The first successful Art Apart projects to be announced are:

  • Winter Windows – See children’s and community art projected on the front windows of The Long Space Gallery on Melbourne Road in Newport and Woods Street Arts Space in Laverton. The project is in partnership with local children’s arts collective, Little Art Big Art. To submit an artwork pick up materials and instructions, from the Long Gallery.
  • Born in a Taxi: Meet You Out The Front – Street theatre in residential streets where illuminated angels, bandicoots, zebras and spontaneous art will visit the suburbs of Altona North and Brooklyn; and
  • Art Speak – Well regarded composer and producer Martin Case of Altona will conduct municipal-wide online interviews and recordings of Hobsons Bay musicians across diverse music genres and cultures. To be shared across online platforms.

The Art Apart program encourages artists and creative practitioners to deliver innovative and creative projects that engage the community of Hobsons Bay using a mix of digital, virtual or socially-distant modes of delivery. The funded programs will run until the end of August.

Up to $5,000 has been made available per project from a total program pool of $30,000. Applications close on 31st May, so look out for more announcements.
