Homelessness Week 2023

This year’s Homelessness Week (7-13 August) theme is ‘It’s time to end homelessness’.

City of Stonnington Mayor, Jami Klisaris, said that homelessness can affect anyone and can be caused by a variety of complex issues.

“Ending homelessness may seem like a big issue to overcome but we can all make a difference,” said Cr Klisaris.

“We aim to not only highlight the importance of this social issue but also to make a positive change. This week, we are asking the community to donate new socks, jocks or beanies to our donation drive.

“In Stonnington, more than 500 people are homeless and people sleeping rough account for only 9 per cent of homeless, but anyone without safe, secure and appropriate accommodation is homeless.

We aim to end rough sleeping homelessness through Stonnington Zero – a collaborative partnership bringing organisations and the community together to identify opportunities to create new housing and reduce rough sleeping homelessness.

“The donated items will be distributed to those in need by our outreach services,” said Cr Klisaris.
