Homicide Squad detectives have charged two men and a teenage boy for the alleged murder of Marco Tapia in Sydney’s south west earlier this month.
About 3.40am on Tuesday 1 September 2026, emergency services were called to a home on Mount Sugarloaf Drive in Glen Alpine, following reports of a home invasion.
On arrival, officers attached to Campbelltown City Police Area Command located a man suffering a gunshot wound inside the house.
The man who has since been identified as 23-year-old Marco Tapia, died at the scene.
Detectives have since confirmed the wrong house was targeted.
Officers were told three unknown offenders left the home a short time before police arrival.
Local police established crime scene and commenced inquiries before the investigation was taken over by State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad under Strike Force Gareno.
Two teenage boys have since been charged and remain before the courts.
Following further extensive inquiries, from 9am yesterday (Tuesday 29 September 2026) strike force detectives arrested a 16-year-old boy and two men – aged 22 and 23 in Junee.
They were taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station where they were charged with murder, two counts of special aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence-weapon and possess unauthorised prohibited firearm.
Detectives will allege in court the three males – one allegedly armed with a pistol – entered the home and confronted Mr Tapia, before he was fatally shot.
The two men were remanded in custody to appear at Bail Division Local Court 5 today (Wednesday 30 September 2026).
The 16-year-old boy was also remanded in custody and will appear at a children’s court today.
