Horsham Rural City Council is encouraging football fans and other travellers heading to Adelaide this weekend for the Western Bulldogs’ AFL clash with the Adelaide Crows to stop, rest and explore everything the municipality has to offer.
With increased traffic expected on the Western Highway, Mayor Cr Brian Klowss said Horsham was the ideal place for motorists to take a break, support local businesses and travel safely.
“This weekend will bring thousands of travellers through our region, and we want to encourage them to make Horsham part of their journey,” Cr Klowss said.
“Horsham is the perfect place to take a break, grab a meal, support local businesses and return to the road refreshed. While you’re here, you can also visit the Framed in Footy exhibition at Horsham Town Hall, which showcases some of the game’s most memorable moments.”
Framed in Footy: AFL Photography by Michael Willson is on display at Horsham Town Hall until 4 October. The exhibition features a collection of images from AFL Chief Photographer Michael Willson, capturing the passion, intensity and emotion of the game.
Local cafes, restaurants, retailers, accommodation providers and service stations are preparing for a busy weekend as visitors travel between Victoria and South Australia.
Cr Dean O’Loughlin said he was looking forward to welcoming Bulldogs supporters to Horsham.
“It’s no secret I’m a one-eyed Bulldogs supporter, and I’ll be cheering on Horsham’s own Joel Freijah. It’s fantastic to see a local football player representing the Western Bulldogs and giving our community another reason to tune in,” Cr O’Loughlin said.
“We have a great business district with plenty of pubs, cafes and shops for travellers to enjoy, and I hope local businesses will be rolling out the red, white and blue carpet for Bulldogs supporters and all visitors this weekend.”
Adding to the atmosphere, communities across the municipality will also be celebrating local football and netball finals, making it an exciting weekend to visit the region.
