House Rules winner hosts Healthy Lungs Forum

A qualified electrician with an interest in asbestos, House Rules winner Luke Cook will preside over the first ever Healthy Lungs Forum in Brisbane on Wednesday 27 November 2019.

Luke, and his twin brother Cody, took out the 2016 edition of Channel 7’s House Rules. As an experienced tradie, Luke knows first-hand the dangers of working with dust hazards like asbestos and silica.

Luke will use his trade and TV skills as Master of Ceremonies at the Healthy Lungs Forum hosted by Workplace Health and Safety Queensland at the Royal International Convention Centre. Register for the forum

The day long forum is a highlight of Asbestos Awareness Week which runs from 24 to 30 November. The Healthy Lungs Forum features leading experts who will explore how and why workers, particularly those in the asbestos removal, stonemasonry, construction and manufacturing industries, must be protected from exposure to occupational lung disease risks. With the right controls in place, exposure to these risks can be prevented.

As part of Asbestos Awareness Week, WHSQ is also hosting five apprentice safety sessions targeting young tradies and their supervisors. Queensland Safety Advocates Julie and Don Sager and WHSQ’s Chief Asbestos Advisor will speak about the impact dust diseases can have on families, and give practical guidance on how to safely manage and work with asbestos-containing materials.
