Housing report shows results are being delivered

Roger Jaensch,Minister for Housing

The second installment of the Quarterly Housing Report shows that the Tasmanian majority Liberal Government is continuing to deliver additional support for Tasmanians in need.

In addition to providing 12,500 social housing dwellings and assisting hundreds of Tasmanians every month with their housing needs, this report shows the Government is building more houses for those who need them.

The report shows that for the period October-December 2019, investment under our Affordable Housing Action Plan 2 delivered:

  • The construction of 87 new dwellings;
  • Support to 20 low income households to build their own home through the HomeShare initiative and also for a family to buy their home from Housing Tasmania;
  • Assistance to 17 households to escape family violence through the Rapid Rehousing program;
  • Support to 22 households into subsidised private rentals; and
  • 1 new unit for homeless accommodation.

The release of the Quarterly Housing Report coincides with another major affordable housing initiative reaching a significant milestone.

The Burtonia Street subdivision, at Rokeby, was approved by the Clarence City Council last night and is an example of the work being done by the Government, in conjunction with community partners, to deliver affordable and social housing for Tasmanians in need.

This subdivision is Government-owned land, which was rezoned under the Housing Land Supply Order and will result in 48 additional residential lots, some of which will be allocated for social housing.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is investing a record $258 million over eight years into programs that increase access to social housing, reduce homelessness and improve housing supply across Tasmania.
