How can we make shire more age-friendly?

We’re are developing a Positive Ageing Plan, and we’d like your thoughts and ideas on how we can make the shire more age-friendly.

We’d like to hear from the community, especially residents 65 years and over, about their needs, aspirations and priorities as they grow older in the Macedon Ranges. We’d also like to know what you think Council’s role should be in supporting people in our community as they get older.

There are many elements that contribute to healthy ageing, such as living independently for longer, remaining socially connected, and having access to information, services and age-friendly public spaces. The Positive Ageing Plan 2020-2025 will consider all of these important areas.

Director Community Wellbeing, Karen Stevens said the plan would be developed with input from the whole community, but older residents were especially encouraged to participate.

“It is essential that we hear from older people so the plan reflects their needs and priorities,” she said. “We want your ideas about how we can support you, encourage your continued involvement in the community and be an age-friendly shire.”

There are a range of opportunities to have your say, including through workshops, a survey, face-to-face interviews and group meetings.

The consultation will run until 13 December 2019.

Council’s Positive Ageing Plan will be developed alongside the Municipal Early Years Plan, and it is anticipated both will be finalised by July 2020.
