How do I Become a Fitter and Turner?

We know these are trying times and taking career decisions have become particularly challenging, given how things are constantly changing because of the coronavirus pandemic. There is uncertainty about the growth potential in certain industries and there is much debate about what skills and occupations are going to be around in the future. One thing is for certain, and that’s hands-on experience and specialised skills are going to give you or your kids a huge advantage in the real world while looking for job opportunities. And that’s where VET and Apprenticeship pathways come in.

To provide some clarity for future job seekers, we have started a job of the month series, and the featured job this month is – Fitters and Turners.

What are fitters and turners?

Fitters are responsible for studying fabricating, assembling, maintaining and repairing precision instruments and equipment/machines. They also undertake general application of a lathe, mill and drilling machine and a range of welding equipment. There are different types of fitters including general fitters, fitters and turners, mechanical fitters, and diesel fitters.
