How Health Science led Grace into new career in health

Torrens University

When Grace Hermocilla decided to move from a corporate role to the Health sector, she chose the Diploma of Health Science at Torrens University as the first step in her journey. Grace says the Diploma gave her the essential knowledge and practical and research skills she needed to make the transition.

The core subjects in the Diploma, such as Anatomy and Physiology, as well as the broad range of electives are taught by staff who also work in the industry. As medical doctors, researchers and practitioners, they share with our students their academic knowledge as well as their practical and clinical expertise.

Through gaining a strong foundation in biological and social sciences, our graduates can build their careers in the Complementary Medicine and Healthcare industries and continue their studies. After completing the Diploma, Grace is now studying a Bachelor of Health Science (Chinese Medicine). She explains, ‘I chose to study at Torrens University Australia because it offers a more hands-on approach to learning, where the goal is to become a good practitioner in the future.’

Flexible options for Diploma of Health Science students

Senior Learning Facilitator in Health Science, Dr Dhivya Rajasekaran, says, ‘Torren’s Diploma of Health Science is a targeted course of foundational subjects for health related careers, where students have the flexibility to choose their own path.

‘We are a student-centric university. We have a lot of flexible options for our students to choose from online, face-to-face and hybrid.’

After completing the Diploma of Health Science, graduates are eligible to attain Associate membership with the Complementary Medicine Association (CMA), and start to develop networks with peers and industry professionals.

Grace Hermocilla talks below about how the Diploma laid the foundations for her transition from the corporate world to the Health profession, and Dr Dhivya Rajasekaran speaks about her delight when her Health course students realise – ‘They can be whatever they want to be.’
