Supporting safety across Swan

The City’s Community Safety Rangers work across all suburbs from 7am to 7pm, seven days a week. They conduct proactive patrols and respond to more than 10,000 safety-related requests each year.

Their work includes school-zone and parking patrols, illegal dumping, abandoned vehicles, off-road vehicle complaints, graffiti and other issues affecting community safety and amenity.

The Community Safety team also support the City’s mobile CCTV network and crime-prevention programs. City actions do not replace WA Police, and criminal activity should always be reported directly to police.

How the CCTV network helps

The City has about 850 public-facing cameras monitoring City facilities and public places.

In 2025, the City extended its partnership with WA Police through a memorandum of understanding. This gives authorised police officers secure access to live CCTV vision, helping them understand and respond to incidents as they happen.

The network has supported responses and investigations involving antisocial behaviour, vehicle theft, burglary, missing people and people at risk. Access is provided securely and lawfully. Police do not record the shared live vision but may capture an image for an authorised policing or community-safety purpose.

Community Safety Ranger patrols, CCTV, parking management and responses to graffiti and illegal dumping also help maintain safer, more welcoming places for customers, employees and business owners. CCTV has also assisted WA Police with investigations involving burglary and vehicle theft.

Responding to community concerns

The City can deploy temporary mobile CCTV to help monitor recurring antisocial behaviour or other concerns in public places. CCTV works alongside patrols, lighting improvements, graffiti removal, safer public-space design and partnerships with police and community organisations.
