Hume continues to collect household recycling bins

Yesterday evening (Thursday 25 July 2019), Hume City Council was one of 32 Victorian Councils to receive advice from its contracted recycling sorting facility, SKM, that it would immediately cease receiving recyclable material at its various locations.

While this is a frustrating situation, we understand this is a temporary situation and Council’s immediate priority is to maintain the service for our community by continuing to collect kerbside recycling bins.

Council is extremely disappointed to be faced with sending our community’s recycling to landfill again but there is simply no other choice. It is simply unsafe to stockpile it until an alternative solution is found.

In 2019, it’s just not good enough. The community has every right to be concerned and demanding answers.

Hume City Council has been leading the call for all levels of government to better work together to ensure a sustainable waste and resource recovery industry in Australia.
