Hutt Street & Hutt Road revitalisation project revealed as Davaar House opens

The official opening of Davaar House of Wellness coincides with the Malinauskas Labor Government delivering on a key election commitment to revitalise Hutt Street, in partnership with the City of Adelaide.

The Member for Adelaide Lucy Hood MP has committed $3 million towards the Hutt Street Entry Statement Project, which will see the delivery of more green spaces to help welcome visitors from the Park Lands into Hutt Street.

The entrance into the southern Hutt Street precinct will be lined with newly planted trees, new paths along the edge of the city’s Park Lands and includes public art leading to the heart of Hutt Street.

As part of the project, Council will install a new Park Lands trail crossing for pedestrians and cyclists. Works are expected to begin in 2024.

Detailed designs for stage two of City of Adelaide’s Hutt Street upgrade will commence in 2024, with construction expected to begin in 2026 following community consultation.

The infrastructure improvement for Hutt Street and new businesses like Davaar House of Wellness will act as attractors to bring new people into the area to support the existing small businesses in the area.

The Malinauskas Government is committed to supporting South Australia’s small business owners and recently released its landmark $14 million Small Business Strategy, which contains 20 measures designed to enable businesses to grow and succeed.

Davaar House of Wellness opens today following a significant two-year restoration of the historic mansion on South Terrace by owners Fiona and Oscar Fiorinotto.

I am delighted to see my $3 million election commitment to revitalise Hutt Street being delivered.

When listening to residents and small businesses they raised the need for an improved entry statement to Hutt Street and better pedestrian connections from the Park Lands to drive increased foot traffic. This investment complements the magnificent, multi-million-dollar restoration of Davaar House, helping create a stunning entry to this beloved main street. It’s a testament to the exciting future ahead for Hutt Street.

Thanks to the Member for Adelaide’s strong advocacy, we have received a significant contribution from the State Government to help us deliver this project. This is only the beginning of Council’s $12.5 million commitment to a master plan that will transform Hutt Street. Better footpaths, additional cycling paths, more trees and improved lighting are much needed in the area and will improve the precinct for pedestrians and cyclists. Our local hospitality businesses will also benefit from these improvements that will create more meeting places for locals along with more opportunities for additional outdoor dining.

Quotes attributable to Fiona Fiorinotto

In creating Davaar House of Wellness, my mission was create a safe and welcoming space where people can learn to prioritise their own wellbeing. We are delighted to be positioned as the gate way to the city and Hutt Street and we welcome the Malinauskas Government’s investment, which will make a big difference for local businesses and residents.
