Melbourne Crime Investigation Unit detectives have arrested a man in relation to a series of deceptions involving a dating app.
Detectives had been investigating a number of incidents where an allegedly fraudulent online dating profile is created to lure people to a hotel room in Melbourne CBD.
It’s alleged the offender gains access to the victim’s identity documents which he uses to commit further fraudulent activity.
A 31-year-old Sydney man was arrested at a hotel on Bourke Street in Melbourne’s CBD this morning.
He has been charged with multiple counts of obtain financial advantage by deception and attempted obtain financial advantage by deception.
He will appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today.
