“If this was the city it would have been done yesterday”

NSW Nationals

Nationals Member for Bathurst, Paul Toole, has joined calls for the Federal and NSW Labor Governments to work together immediately to provide major upgrades to railway crossings across NSW to help bring our road toll down.

Mr Toole said rail level crossings in regional NSW are not safe enough for the drivers and pedestrians using them every day.

“Wherever you travel across the west, be it Bathurst, Parkes, Molong, Forbes or Wellington, there are rail crossings simply not up to standard.”

Mr Toole said crossing upgrades should include installation of the latest technology and safety equipment such as:

• retro-reflective boom gates

• audible warning devices

• updated signage

• LED flashing lights

“I’m pleased to have local truck drivers like Martin Morris from Morris Haulage who do thousands of kilometres each year joining the call, agreeing that the current level crossings across Western NSW are not safe and not easy to be seen.

“It’s time for the west to get its fair share of investment from the government. I call on the government to take some action immediately before we see our road toll increase even further.

“If this was the city it would have been done yesterday,” Mr Toole said.
