important update to our cancer services and updates

Cancer Council WA understands that West Australians undergoing cancer treatment, cancer survivors and their families and friends may have questions in relation to our cancer services and programs due to the recent outbreak of Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Please see below important updates to our cancer services and programs

  • 13 11 20 is available Monday-Friday 9am-5pm as normal.
  • All Regional Centres are complying with COVID-19 screening measures and ask that all clients contact their local centre to book an appointment before visiting the centre.
  • Dot’s Place Peel and Bunbury, Wig Service and Transport to Treatment services are still available – please call prior to visiting the centres.
  • Cancer council WA Midwest office is closed to visitors; Cancer Support Coordinator is available via phone or telehealth; no Wig service is available.
  • Great Southern office is closed to visitors – please call 13 11 20.
  • All state wide Cancer Council WA Complementary Therapy, Life Now classes and Support Groups are suspended until further notice.
  • Counselling (some delivered over the phone where possible), practical and financial support services, pro bono program, Publications ordering, Metro Wig Service and Products by Post are continuing business as usual.
  • The treatment centres have advised that ALL non-essential staff (including Volunteers) should NOT attend. As of next Monday, patient appointments with their doctors will be taking place via phone/Skype (therefore numbers of patients and carers in the treatment centres will be minimal).
  • The Lodges are still taking bookings or are waitlisting people. However, they are guided by federal, state and health department advice and note that the coronavirus situation is changing rapidly, so the best recommendation is for callers to get in contact with the Lodges directly so that accommodation service staff can assist them with specific queries. A higher volume of calls is being experienced; however staff are following up on message bank calls asap. Only essential visitors are allowed at the lodges.
We will continue to monitor the situation and act on the advice of public health professionals and WA and Federal Governments.
