Improved campground and boat ramp facilities at Catamaran now complete

Tasmanian Government

Nick Duigan, Minister for Parks and Heritage

Visitors to the Recherche Bay Nature Recreation Area can now enjoy improved access to the Catamaran boat ramp and campground.

Minister for Parks and Heritage, Nick Duigan, said the works completed the $3.25m upgrade to campground and access areas delivered by the Tasmanian Government.

“The completed works enhance the visitor experience while protecting the site’s significant cultural and natural values,” Minister Duigan said.

“These completed works have delivered improved parking and access for boat trailers, new designated camping sites and better traffic flow throughout the popular site.

“The upgrades were undertaken over winter to avoid peak boat use and camping periods. The improved site makes it easier and safer for visitors to experience this popular location.

“Our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future is investing in our outstanding experiences in our national parks.”

The project was completed in time for the peak visitor season and delivered by Tasmanian civil construction company Andrew Walter Constructions, supported by local subcontractors.

The upgrades form part of the Cockle Creek Precinct Site Plan, which also delivered new visitor shelter facilities and toilets at Cockle Creek in 2020.

Additional works are planned to further improve camping facilities and access at Cockle Creek, with works expected to commence in the coming months.
